Abstract
There was a wide divergence on the basic issue that how many sinograms of rising tone with voiced initials had phonetic changes in Zhu Xi’s era during the related research in the field of modern phonetics history, and it was unable to decide whose hypothesis was correct. In this paper, we adjusted the method to analyze materials exhaustively and investigate comprehensively, certified there were 61 characters of rising tone with voiced initials being used as falling tone 179 times by investigating 144 characters for research that were used 456 times in Zhu Xi’s yinxie ( 音叶 ) linguistic data, and revealed the reality of rising tone with voiced initials becoming falling tone exhaustively and accurately in phonetics historical materials in the era of Zhu Xi.
